The History of

The first general meeting of the Sheboygan Space Society was held on February 20,1989, at the University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan, Ten members were in attendance. The Lunar Reclamation Society of Milwaukee assisted in organizing the chapter and helped us to become a chapter of the National Space Society(NSS). Along with the monthly meeting the chapter produced a monthly newsletter "Shores Beyond" with Harald Schenk as editor.

Monthly meetings consisted of programs with guest speakers, tapes, slide shows and members giving talks on interesting space subjects.

The Lunar Reclamation Society(LRS) usually invited us on their annual field trip to places of scientific interest. One year we went to Fermi Laboratorys, Batavia,Illinois and another year we went to Argonne Laboratories, just southwest of Chicago. We as a society have also been invited by the Sheboygan Astronomical Society(SAS) to join them on their annual field trip.

Individuals in our group have made it a routine to attend the Experimental Aircraft Association(EAA) convention in Oshkosh, WI. The Sheboygan Space Society has had an exhibit every year at the Rockets for Schools(RFS). The Rocket Launch and Space Exhibition which has been held in May at Sheboygan WI. The Exhibition was held at the Sheboygan Armory. The area used for the launch of the rockets, on the south pier is referred to during the Exhibition as Spaceport Wisconsin.

In 1998 Our members helped the Milwaukee chapter(LRS) with the International Space Development Conference '98(ISDC'98). Our chapter had an exibit at the conferance as well.

The membership through the past twelve years of our existence has averaged ten members, and at meetings has varied from two to twenty.
